Body Image.. What makes us beautiful!

Screen Shot 2015-04-18 at 1.30.30 AM

A friend posted a picture this week of a person at 250 lbs vs a person at 120 lbs. Quoting the following…

“Healthy thoughts for Thursday!!! “This is a Body Scan of a 250 lb woman and a 120 lb woman…
Look at the size of the intestines and stomach; how the knee joints rub together; the enlarged heart; and the fat pockets near the brain. Not good!
It’s about being HEALTHY. If you keep doing what you are doing for another 10 years…where will you be? Your body IS a temple…question is do you treat it that way?
If this isn’t motivation to cleanse your body of impurities, I don’t know what is!”

My Response:

Here’s the thing though! I’m 200lbs down from 295. I just finished my first marathon! I know people that are 100, 110, 120 lbs that can’t even run a 1/2 a mile without dying for air!

Healthy is not a number on a scale or the size of your clothes.. Because even thin people are out of shape, have heart attacks, triple bi pass, and so on! It’s eating right and exercising that makes you healthy! You can not judge a person by this picture! Im sorry you just can’t because I’m proof of that! People look at me when I walk around proud with my marathon jacket and ask or look at me like “you ran a marathon” damn skippy I did! Then they say “well I can’t do that!” But it doesn’t mean I can’t! I’m not a size 2,4, or 6 but I’m a happy size 12/14. We need to stop making body image so negative instead we need to make living a healthy lifestyle the best image we project!

Just my food for thought!”

My response was simple and straight to the point. Because If I had listened to what people said to me and still say to me.. I wouldn’t be where I am today. Healthy, Happy, and a Marathoner. The company she represents is a company that promotes weight loss with pills, quick fixes, and shakes. Not eating healthy and not exercising. This is the image that they are promoting and honestly this is not a company that I want to be a part of… This is why I chose to go with Beachbody. Because of the sense of community, Healthy eating, Positive reinforcement, workouts, and bonds!

What are your thoughts on Body Image? What does the word healthy mean to you?

7 Ways Exercise Relieves Stress

How Does Exercise Relieve Stress?

If you don’t have a very active lifestyle, and often feel strangled by stress and depression, you may want to take note.

Here are the main ways exercise and stress are connected:

Body Systems

When stressed, each of your body systems (cardiovascular, nervous, respiratory, muscular etc.) need to interact efficiently for you to respond well. Exercise helps your body systems practice interacting with each other, in a healthy way. This directly leads to a better overall response to stress.

Endorphins

These are your natural pain killers that give you a “high”. Although more research is needed, there’s no doubt that long periods of moderate to high intensity exercise, does have a happy affect on your emotions.

Fight or Flight

This is your natural reaction to any stressful situation. The problem is that much of today’s stress doesn’t require either physical fighting or running. But your body still provides the chemicals for it, which can be harmful if they remain. The best and most logical way to clear the chemicals, is to actually do some exercise.

Rhythm and Flow

Some exercise, like running and cycling, lets you get into a rhythm. That rhythmic flow of a repeat action relaxes your mind. It’s a bit like focusing on nothing and everything at the same time. It’s your time. Just make sure you keep an eye on where you’re going!

Socialize

Any sport or exercise with friends, gives you the chance to socialize, that you may not normally get. “Having a laugh” with friends is more than just fun. It gives you a chance to share your problems, and know that someone is there if you need them.

Better Sleep

Lack of sleep often leads to a vicious cycle. You become more stressed and anxious during the day, which means it’s even harder to sleep at night. Exercise not only helps break that cycle, but can lead to a positive cycle instead. When you sleep well, you’ll have more energy in the day and be more productive.

Organize your Life

Stress is often caused by a lack of organization and planning, whether it’s in your work life or home life. Following a workout plan, where you set yourself goals and ultimately have a sense of achievement, will help you transfer those skills to the rest of your life.

A creative man …
